Beautiful, Stress-Free Family Portraits That Capture Your Story

Busy family life? I get that! That’s why my sessions are relaxed, fun, and completely tailored to your family. My goal is to create portraits that feel real — the laughter, the connection, and the love that make your family unique.

If you’re not sure what to do in front of the camera, don’t stress! I will guide and coach you through flattering poses and real expressions so your portraits look natural, genuine, and timeless.

In just a short session, we’ll create images perfect for wall art, gifts, or keepsakes your family will treasure for years.

Coordinated outfits make a huge difference in your portraits. You don’t need to match exactly — instead, think colors and textures that compliment each other. Soft pastels, neutrals, or seasonally inspired tones (like warm colors in fall or classic reds and greens for the holidays) always look great.

Avoid clothing too close to skin tones, and skip anything with large logos or busy patterns. If you need more information, check out my post here on What Should I Wear?

How My Family Portrait Sessions Work

My family photography sessions are designed to be very easy and enjoyable from start to finish. Most sessions last about 45–50 minutes — long enough to capture a mix of candid moments and posed portraits, but short enough to keep everyone engaged. Especially the kiddos!

I’ll guide your family through everything, from posing and expressions to making sure everyone feels relaxed. Expect plenty of dad jokes— they always help bring out real smiles!

After your session, I carefully edit and retouch your images before your private reveal and gallery viewing. You’ll be able to select your favorites and choose from digital images or beautifully printed artwork.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Sessions are typically 45-50 minutes. Best to plan for 1-1.5 hours though to make time for cranky kids (or husbands).

  • I would bring makeup for touching up, anything for the kids to keep them smiling. Snacks and bribes for the little ones are great too!

  • Coordinated colors are best. You don’t need to match, but do coordinate. Creams, pastels, solid colors are great choices.

  • I have a few local spots that are beautiful. If you have spots that are family favorites or have an important place in your families story, I’m happy to photograph there. Keep in mind that most of DC is national park land and will require permits, no problem, but it does take some time to apply and get the permit.

  • Most of my clients are shy or anxious in front of a camera. I guide everyone through the process so there’s guesswork, and I’m not above sounding like a total dork to get kids to laugh.

  • Of course! Pets are just an important as anyone else to the family. If you want to bring the dog, or cat (that would be a first), I’m all for it.

Based in Clarksburg, I proudly serve families in surrounding communities including Germantown, Boyds, Damascus, and Montgomery County. Whether you're nearby or in the neighboring towns, I’m here to capture your family's special moments."
