How Much Do Family Photos Cost in Montgomery County?
If you’ve started looking into family photography in Montgomery County, you’ve probably noticed pricing is all over the place. Some photographers quote a flat number. Others start with a “session fee” that doesn’t include any actual photos. A few don’t list pricing at all, which usually means a phone call and a sales pitch before you get a straight answer.
Here’s a clear look at what you’re actually paying for, so you can compare offers and know what’s reasonable.
What typically affects family photography pricing
A few factors generally drive cost:
Session length — Shorter mini sessions (15-20 minutes) cost less but include fewer images. Full sessions (45-90 minutes) allow more variety and natural moments.
Number of images delivered — Some photographers deliver a small curated set; others give you everything shot. More images generally means a higher price, but not always a better experience.
Print rights — This is the one that catches people off guard. Some pricing only includes digital files; printing requires buying a separate package or license. Others include full personal-use printing rights in the base price. I choose to allow you to print your photos without a license. I do offer prints but don’t require that you go through me, though you will get amazing prints from me!
Session fee vs. all-inclusive pricing — A low “starting at” price often doesn’t include your actual photos — you pay again afterward to unlock them. All-inclusive pricing means one number covers everything. I like to keep things simple, most families don’t have time for 3 separate meetings. I go all inclusive to simplify the process.
What a typical Montgomery County family session runs
Across the area, family sessions generally range from roughly $300 on the low end (often mini sessions with a handful of images and no printing rights) up to $700+ for full sessions with larger galleries and add-ons. The wide range usually comes down to exactly which of the factors above are included — which is why comparing two “family photography” quotes side by side can be confusing without knowing what’s actually in each one.
What’s included in my $450 sessions
To keep this simple and transparent: my family sessions are a flat $450, and that price includes everything.
A 60-90 minute session
25 professionally edited, high-resolution images
A private online gallery to choose favorites or download the entire collection
Full print-ready files, sized for framing, albums, and wall art
Complete personal-use printing rights without watermarks, no separate print package to buy
No session fee that doesn’t include photos. No upsells after the fact. One price, everything you need to actually use your photos.
What to ask any photographer before booking
Whatever you decide, these questions will tell you what you’re really paying for:
Does this price include the actual photos, or just the time?
How many final images do I receive?
Do I get printing rights, or do I need to buy a separate package to print anything?
Is there anything added on after the session that isn’t in this quote?
If a photographer can’t answer all four clearly up front, that’s worth factoring into your decision as much as the number itself.
