What Is Documentary Style Photography? | Clarksburg, Maryland Family Photography

What is documentary-style photography? Chances are if you're planning a family or newborn portrait session you've been searching your local area for photographers. You've probably seen the terms "lifestyle, documentary, photojournalistic" when photographers describe their style and you may or may not understand what this even means.

All of those terms really point to the same thing. Documentary means that there is less posing from the photographer and more interaction between the subjects. I am a Clarksburg family photographer and would be thrilled to help you create your family's portraits.

One of the things that people love when looking back through photo albums is remembering moments. Not poses. It's fun to re-live why everyone is doubled over with laughter in a photo or remember a beautiful moment with a loved one, or maybe a cute face that your little one used to make when he or she was just a few weeks old. We love to create portraits that are natural and beautiful.

Portraits should show you or your family's unique personality and make you want to relive that moment when you see the image.   That's exactly what we do.  I love photographing you and your family in the moment.  I’ll guide you into positions that are flattering but will let you do the rest.   I want you comfortable in the moment and interact with your loved ones like you do every other day. I am still able to capture some amazing candid moments while creating timeless portraits that everyone will love. We definitely like to interact with you and even have a few tricks up our sleeves to get those big laugh moments and to keep everyone comfortable in front of the camera.

Family portrait take of mom, dad and son at Black Hills Regional park in Germantown, Maryland. Portrait is focused on the son walking on the beach with boats and the lake behind them.

When you're ready to start creating your family portraits, give me a call, and let's create something that generations will love!
