Baby Nursery Organization Tips | Clarksburg Family and Newborn Photography

Life with a newborn is AMAZING! It’s stressful, it’s sleep deprived and you end up doing most tasks on auto on muscle memory. But, it is amazing. I was so happy that my wife took the time to plan out how the nursery layout would look weeks before our first son was born. We had most of everything in its place. Crib was up, blankies ready, rocking chair in the corner.

That first night going in there for the 2am feeding and changing in the dark, we were thankful we took the time to plan everything out. I’m going to share a few baby nursery organization tips with you that made our life easier.

Utilize The Space Under Things.

When you’re looking for your crib, changing table, and dresser, consider one that has feet and space underneath. This is the perfect place to store all the extra wipes and diapers that you’re going to have. If they’re right at your feet, you won’t be rummaging through a packed closet in the middle of the night wonder wear the wipes are. We found these bins to be pretty helpful for our space. The best part is that these can then become book bins or toy bins as your little one grows up.

Use Organizers For Your Drawers.

When we set up our nursery, we had a changing table with a shelf underneath. It didn’t take long for that space to become cluttered, which made it difficult to find anything in the dark. Consider getting some small, medium, and larger bins to keep all your wipes, diapers, creams, and such in. It makes it so much easier to just reach down and grab something. As you transition your space to more of a bedroom, these bins can then be used in the dresser to organize socks and underwear.

Bins, Bins, and more Bins!

One thing we oddly seemed to never have enough of was bins. Collapsable bins from IKEA are great as you can store them flat until you need them. We are now using what used to be diaper storage bins to keep all the toys off the floor, HA!! Yeah right, toys off the floor, like that lasts about 20 seconds. You can get a shelf that fits in the closet, put some removable bins in it and save quite a bit of space. Again, that shelving unit can transition to a bookshelf or toy shelf as your child get’s older.

Blackout Shades

When we set up our second sons’ nursery we had a new issue to deal with. Street lights. The room got quite bright with the outside lights, and at Christmas, our neighbor was trying to outdo Buddy from the movie Deck The Halls ( he was trying to have his house seen from space). Blackout shades were the perfect solution. Jake likes to sleep in total darkness. Plus it helps keep the room cooler when the sun is on that side of the house.

Rocking Chairs

Get a good rocking chair to have in the nursing spot of your nursery. These had proven to be one of the best ways to get both my boys to nod off. Of course, it was me falling asleep there before him. With a good cushion and back pillow these make the perfect place for nursing and keeping your baby asleep. These and good quality cribs make good things to pass on to your kids as well.

So while not an exhaustive list, it’s a great start to give you some tips on getting your nursery looking good and organized. The last step of your nursery and home decor would be newborn portraits.
