Tips for having a portrait session at home:
You’re home and your newborn is less than 2 weeks old. You’re getting antsy to have newborn portraits taken before it’s too late but you’re exhausted and the last thing you want to do it pack the diaper bag with several outfits, bottles, blankets and an endless number of diapers to drive across town to a studio. Armato Photography takes the pressure off you by taking your newborn portraits in the comfort of your own home. We also capture family portrait sessions in your home as well. You’re a busy family with lots of demands on your schedule. We understand how time is not always on your side. The time it takes to get all your children dressed and fed plus yourself dressed and ready for a portrait session can be super stressful. Save the travel time and allow us to come to you.
Some things to consider when having Armato Photography come to you for in-home portrait session:
1. Leading up to the day of your session take some notes on which rooms in your house have the best light and what time of day you get that light. We love to shoot with natural light whenever we can. Okay, okay… let’s be honest, in Maryland we have plenty of cloudy, rainy and snowy days. Don’t sweat it, we won’t have to reschedule the session and mom, you don’t have to worry about your hair getting frizzy with the nasty weather. We can create our own natural looking light with strobes (Hello back up plan!). Look for a space in your home that you think would be a great space for the session. Often, clients decide to use their Master Bedroom. The Queen/King size beds make a great space to photography newborns and families. Other lifestyles portraits will be taken in other rooms of your house as well (example: living rooms, sun-rooms, and your newborn’s nursery).
2. Keep the session space clean and clutter free. When you decided on the location within your home, make sure that it’s free of clutter and distracting items that could take away from your portraits. Try to keep bed covers clean and wrinkle free.
3. For your family portrait session - What activities do you enjoy with your kids? Do you enjoy baking together, playing board games, movie nights? This is a great opportunity to create some wonderful family portraits of activities that remind you of the good times. It’s a great way for your children to look back on these portraits with their kids and talk about the fun activities they shared with you when they were kids.
4. For your newborn portrait session - Coffee… lots of coffee so you don’t fall asleep during the session. Just kidding.. but seriously.
When you’re ready to create beautiful timeless portraits of your newborn or your family, or both, give Armato Photography a call and let’s get started on documenting those precious moments that fly by way too fast for all of us.
